The genocidal erasure of Gaza unfolds before the eyes of a watching world. Across continents, Muslims have organised protests, raised funds, and boycotted complicit corporations. Yet, amid all of this lies a colossal, uncomfortable truth too long ignored: the role of Islamic investment funds, worth some $200 billion globally.1
Billions of dollars, invested through allegedly ‘Shariah-compliant’ funds are quietly fuelling the companies enabling the genocide.
Recently, Sarim.blog2 reported that one of the leading ‘Shariah-compliant’ investment platforms – ‘Wahed Invest’ – offers an equity portfolio with huge allocations to companies that have been implicated in the genocide for 20 months. It turns out, this is just a drop in the ocean.
This article exposes how some of the world’s most prominent ‘Shariah-compliant’ investment vehicles—such as the HSBC Islamic Global Equity Index, iShares Islamic ETF, Schroders Islamic Global Equity, and US-based funds like Amana, Azzad, HLAL (of Wahed Invest), and SPUS are funnelling billions of dollars in Muslim investor capital into corporations actively complicit in the genocide in Gaza.

The billions below, moreover, concern only five of the many implicated companies that make the ‘Halal’ lists of only a handful of ‘Islamic’ funds. In reality, the numbers are far higher, and the crisis is real. Analysts predict that there are up to 20 million Muslim investors.3 These same millions may tweet for Gaza, shed tears for its children burnt alive in their tents, and boycott Happy Meals. Yet they are, through their Shariah-certified investments, financing the engineers of their destruction.
Shariah Boards have become instruments for laundering participation in genocide under a veneer of degrees in Islamic economics from one institution or the other. This is a scandal of epic proportions and demands immediate and unapologetic reckoning by both the Muslim public and its scholars.
Microsoft Corporation
Complicity in Genocide
Microsoft has played a direct role in bolstering Israel’s military capabilities during the Gaza genocide. The Israeli military publicly confirmed it uses Microsoft’s Azure cloud to facilitate operations in Gaza. Between Oct 2023 and June 2024, Microsoft provided the Israeli Ministry of Defence with 19,000 hours of cloud engineering support and consulting. By March 2024, the IDF’s consumption of Azure AI services had surged 64× higher than pre-October 2023 levels.4
‘Islamic’ Financing
Microsoft is a top holding across nearly all Islamic equity funds. The Wahed FTSE USA Shariah ETF (HLAL) allocates about 15.2% of its portfolio to Microsoft (≈$90 million at mid-2025 values).5 The SP Funds S&P 500 Shariah ETF (SPUS) holds ~11% in Microsoft, roughly $130+ million given SPUS’s ~$1.2 billion size.6 The HSBC Islamic Global Equity Index Fund has around 8% in Microsoft (~$180 million of its $2.25 billion assets).7 The Amana Growth Fund (AMAGX) similarly invested 5.25% in Microsoft as of April 20258 ($278 million given its huge ~$5.3 billion assets).
In summary, over half a billion dollars of Shariah-compliant funds are parked in Microsoft stock, even as the company’s technology and leadership actively facilitated, and continues to facilitate Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
Alphabet Inc. (Google)
Complicity
Since 2021 Google has provided cloud services to all branches of the Israeli government (including the military, Shin Bet security agency, police, and even weapons manufacturers) under the $1.2 billion Project Nimbus contract (shared with Amazon). After Oct 7, Google fast-tracked urgent requests from Israel’s Ministry of Defence to expand use of its AI platforms. In Oct–Nov 2023 Google “received, accelerated, and granted” a MOD request to boost use of its Vertex AI service for the IDF.9
In March 2024 Google even signed a direct consulting contract to broaden the military’s cloud access. Throughout 2024, Google approved multiple Israeli military requests for better AI resources, including its cutting-edge Gemini AI model. The IDF also tapped Google’s facial-recognition (Photos) to power mass surveillance of Gazans. Tellingly, Alphabet’s leadership adjusted policies to accommodate and allow for defence work – in Feb 2025 Alphabet lifted its ban on using Google AI for weapons and surveillance development, explicitly enabling military applications. Google also retaliated against internal protest to this enablement, firing 50+ of its employees.10 Under what justification does it then remain on investment ‘Halal‘ lists?
Islamic Financing
Alphabet (Google) is widely held in Islamic portfolios (often via its two share classes). Wahed Investment’s HLAL’s index holds about 8.2% in Alphabet11 (combining GOOG and GOOGL shares) – roughly a $49 million position. SPUS has 5.85% in Alphabet (GOOGL + GOOG)12 (~$70 million). HSBC’s Islamic Equity fund allocates 5.7% to Alphabet (~$129 million). Amana Growth held 4.30% in Alphabet (Google), about $228 million.13 Across these funds, roughly $450–$500 million of Islamic investments is in Alphabet stock.
Amazon
Complicity
The IDF confirmed using Amazon Web Services to boost its bombing of Gaza (alongside Google and Microsoft clouds). In fact, among the ‘big three’ cloud firms, Amazon enjoys the closest relationship with the Israeli military. Israel’s intelligence apparatus uses AWS servers to “store masses of information on almost everyone in Gaza.”14
Under Project Nimbus, Amazon has since 2021 supplied cloud services to all branches of Israel’s government and military in partnership with Google. This includes servicing Israel’s Ministry of Defence, domestic security (Shin Bet), police and prison systems, as well as state-owned weapons manufacturers like Israel Aerospace Industries and Rafael – industries otherwise (inconsistently) excluded by conventional Islamic screening.
The Islamic Finance Guru still gives Amazon stock a ‘pass’ Fatwa, reasoning that its “probably fine from a business perspective and definitely fine from a quantitative perspective,”15 arguments of little meaning to most readers.
Islamic Financing
SPUS allocates 6.23% to Amazon ($75 million). HSBC’s Islamic Global Equity fund holds about 6.3% in Amazon ($143 million). Across the Shariah funds that do include Amazon, roughly $200+ million is invested in this company – funding a firm that has been deeply enmeshed in the military cloud infrastructure of an entity complicit of genocide.
Meta Platforms (Facebook/Instagram)
In the aftermath of Oct 7, Meta’s Facebook and Instagram platforms systematically suppressed pro-Palestinian content while allowing Zionist voices to flourish. A Human Rights Watch report documented that Meta engaged in “systemic and global” censorship of content supportive of Palestine, via account bans, post removals, “shadow-banning” and other tactics ‘on a global scale’.16 HRW found thousands of instances of Meta erroneously removing or demoting content that merely voiced support for Palestinians being killed as ‘spam’ or ‘terrorism. Top Israeli officials, meanwhile, praised Facebook for its cooperation in combating ‘terrorist’ content. Meta became Israel’s propaganda arm.
‘Islamic’ Financing
Meta (Facebook) is a significant holding in many Islamic funds. HLAL’s portfolio has about 6.2% in Meta17 ($37 million). SPUS holds 4.54% in Meta, or $55 million. HSBC’s Islamic Equity Index fund allocates 4.4% to Meta, which is a huge ~$100 million.
In total these Shariah funds own more than $190 million in Meta stock. This means Islamic investors – likely unwittingly – are profiting from a company actively censoring on Israel’s behalf, and facilitating the apparently unlimited pretex found in October 7th for the genocide in Gaza.
NVIDIA
Complicity
The Israeli military has purchased multiple NVIDIA AI hardware systems amid the Gaza war (often via no-bid contracts, or no public tendor indicating a cosy relationship between NVIDIA and its customer). Disclosed Israeli MOD purchases in 2023–24 include NVIDIA’s Jetson edge-AI modules and high-end DGX servers – cutting-edge platforms designed for artificial intelligence applications.18
These modules power the IDF’s accelerated use of AI for surveillance and targeting in Gaza (e.g. the IDF’s new AI tools ‘The Gospel/ and ‘Where’s Daddy?’ used to identify strike targets at scale).
Beyond hardware, NVIDIA has a deep strategic presence in Israel, acquiring Israeli chipmaker Mellanox for $6.9 billion in 2019 (one of the largest Israeli tech acquisitions ever). NVIDIA now has its second-largest R&D centre globally in Israel, with 13% of its workforce based there, and in 2023 it launched ‘Israel-1,’ a powerful AI supercomputer in Israel to serve local R&D and partners.19 NVIDIA’s AI technology has become a force-multiplier for Israel, enabling advanced autonomous targeting and surveillance during the Gaza campaign.
‘Islamic’ Financing
NVIDIA is a major holding in most Islamic growth portfolios. SPUS has 10.96% in NVIDIA ($132 million). The HSBC Islamic Equity fund holds about 7.7% in NVIDIA ($175 million). Amana’s Growth Fund had 4.61% in NVIDIA (~$244 million). Around $550 million or more of Shariah-compliant assets are invested in NVIDIA across these funds.

Islamic funds have avoided holding many of the most egregious war profiteers like Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, or Boeing (which supply Israel fighter jets and bombs, as well as major U.S. banks that unabashedly financed Israeli bond drives or made large donations (e.g. Goldman Sachs’s $2 million relief pledge)20.
However, the tech sector was largely given a pass by Shariah filters such as the following list by Islamic investment advisor ‘Islamicly’. In a 2025 article it audaciously titles: “Your Ultimate Guide To Shariah Compliant Investments In 2025” – it lists all of these stocks as simply Halal, Halal, Halal…

What does it say about the activists being targeted, cursed, defamed, or even persecuted for simply speaking out, posting, or attending a sit-in against genocide, while ‘Islamic’ finance pumps billions into pro-Israeli tech giants in wholly unnecessary products such as these? The boards that continue to give the green light to these companies have not only utterly failed but appear wholly compromised, entirely ignorant, or irrelevant, stuck to the same outdated and erroneous screening checklists. Gaza has indeed exposed you.
If the global Muslim ummah cannot immediately purge these complicit companies from its portfolios, it signals that oppression, unchecked and unchallenged, is precisely what our communities will continue to face.

The hadith is:> “Whoever conceals (the faults or sins of) a Muslim, Allah will conceal his faults in this world and the Hereafter.”Source:Sahih Muslim, Book 45, Hadith 38 (also known as Hadith 2699)Part of a longer hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنهFull Hadith (relevant part):> “…Whoever relieves a believer’s distress of the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue him from a difficulty of the difficulties of the Hereafter. Whoever alleviates the situation of one in dire straits who cannot repay his debt, Allah will alleviate his lot in both this world and the Hereafter. Whoever conceals (the faults of) a Muslim, Allah will conceal his faults in this world and the Hereafter.…”This hadith emphasizes the immense reward of protecting the honor and privacy of fellow Muslims, instead of exposing their sins.

The perceived omissions or failures of others, such as Leo Tolstoy, Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, and Amy Katz, can be viewed as complicity or indifference in the face of injustice. The consequences of such omissions can be profound, especially during times of crisis, as they may contribute to a culture of silence or inaction regarding pressing issues like antisemitism. Leadership morally opposes antisemitism, it does not quietly ignore violent pogroms like the Oct 7th 2023 Hamas surprise attack!
Leaders especially those who make claims of moral superiority and hold positions of influence, if they actively oppose hatred and discrimination they must do it equally across the board. Calling Israeli leaders “war criminals” while quiet upon war crimes committed by others, like Hamas, makes such people antisemitic pigs.

People under military occupation, siege, and now genocide don’t exactly have the luxury of reflecting over European-Jewish history. Palestinians don’t view Israelis through the lens of European pogroms or the Holocaust, but as foreign colonial settlers who fled European persecution only to recreate the same horrors in Palestine.
October 7th wasn’t some irrational outburst of anti-Jewish hatred nor a replay of Europe’s past but a resistance operation against a military occupier.
The idea that Palestinians are somehow forcing Jews to relive traumas that were inflicted by Europeans is bizarre as they had no part in those crimes.
If anything, October 7th resembles the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Comparing it to a pogrom is laughable and more like accusing French resistance of being unfair to the Nazis because of Germany’s hardships after World War I.

In Deuteronomy 16:18-20, the commandment to appoint judges and officers in all cities underscores the importance of justice: “You shall not pervert justice; you shall not show partiality, and you shall not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the righteous.” This principle, echoed in the teachings of the sages, who stress that a corrupt judiciary undermines the very foundation of society and the time-oriented brit which forever and eternally creates the chosen Cohen people from nothing. Hezekiah’s actions seen as a common law precedent for Sanhedrin justices to pursue justice and righteousness, ensuring that their governance aligns with the values of the Torah through משנה תורה legislative review of all laws and decrees imposed by Government statute laws.
The presence of bribed judges and corrupt courtrooms leads to the Torah curse of societal decay and a loss of faith among the people; meaning Jews assimilate and embrace the culture and customs of foreign peoples. Gaza Israeli forces shall not leave as they did in 2005 consequent to Oct 7th. 10s of thousands of Gazans have already fled and sought refuge in other Arab countries such as Egypt and Jordan. Will this expulsion of Gazan terminate with all Gazans expelled from Gaza? I do not know or predict the future. But for sure Gazans themselves now challenge the once Hamas dictatorship of Gaza. Israeli troops control over 50% of Gaza and perhaps 75%, I do not know the exact details because I do not sit in Bibi’s Government. Just a simple Israeli who approves of the Gaza War!!!
